Celebrate Earth Day and Arbor Day while Nature Journaling at Denzil Stewart Nature Park on April 25th. This all-ages experience invites participants to slow down, observe the natural world, and record their discoveries in a way meaningful to them. We will have two groups, the first at 10am will be more beginner oriented, focusing on the basics of nature journaling, then at 11am will be the intermediate group where will explore deeper observations and more in depth journaling techniques. Please bring your own sketchbook, journal, or blank pages to draw on, as well as a pencil, pen or other writing/drawing utensils. Colored pencils and paints such as watercolors are optional, but welcome if you choose to bring them.

Nature journaling is the practice of observing and documenting the natural world using a combination of notes, sketches, questions, and reflections. While drawing can be part of the process, it doesn’t have to be art-focused, writing, simple diagrams, and curiosity-driven observations are just as valuable.

In honor of Arbor Day, this session will primarily focus on native trees, learning to notice their unique features, patterns, and roles in the ecosystem. Whether you’re brand new or have some experience, you’re encouraged to join, explore, and connect with nature with us!

Event leaders: Meg Kast (801-864-9425), and Dawn Holzer.

This trip is suitable for both novice and experienced birders.

Participation requires walking and observing within the park on asphalt trails and off-trail in grass, gravel, mulch and soil covered surfaces. You may bring folding chairs or use rock structures and benches available within the park.

Registration Required: RSVP and field trip waiver below required before 9 pm Friday, April 24, 2026.
