Meeting Recording: Benson Incorporation First Public Hearing 03-04-2024 (Fast forward to 16:54 for beginning of meeting)

  • Highlights:
  • Benson is not currently incorporated – it is unincorporated Cache County.
  • In the recorded meeting, sponsor Matt Fuller declines to share his opinions, says this is just to determine if it is even a possibility to incorporate.
  • It costs a small fortune to do the incorporation feasibility studies (there’s a formula regarding the population/land and income/taxes to determine if it can afford to become a city, and then there’s the matter of forming a government (Mayor & 5 Councilors), and providing city services (water, sewer, police, fire, garbage, etc.) – one study is $20,000, which the City of Benson must repay if it does incorporate.
  • There’s a 30 day deadline starting from Monday, March 4, 2024, to request to be excluded from the boundaries, but anyone adjacent can request to be added at any time in the future
  • Bridgerland Audubon wants to know:
  • Why is the City of Benson proposing to incorporate 12,673 acres?
  • Is there an existing or proposed plan in place to protect the wetlands?
