The Barren Company owns property just north of Bridgerland Audubon’s Amalga Barren Sanctuary. It is a managed wetland used by members and their guests during season. Several members own shares or “guns” in the organization. Bridgerland Audubon holds shares due to generous donations by Val Grant, Bryan Dixon and Jean Lown. Our aim is to work cooperatively with adjacent landowners to preserve the ability of this wetland to support wildlife production. For instance, the Barren Company and Bridgerland Audubon are party to a Migratory Bird Protection Agreement (MBPA) signed to protect the combined 646 acres of both properties allowing a collaborative effort for habitat preservation as well as legal protection against zone changes or complaints from encroaching development, and an exemption from public access to open water. Entry is allowed only with permission from management.
