Meet at the southwest corner of the Smith’s Marketplace parking lot (750 North Main Street, Logan) at 8 AM for carpooling to our destination. Spring Hollow campground is about 6 miles east of Logan on route 89. Participants are welcome to meet us there around 8:15 if driving themselves. You may be able to park across the wooden bridge at the campground entrance. If that lot is full there is additional parking just across the highway to the north. If crossing the road on foot use extreme caution! We will follow a paved road about ¼ mile up a moderate incline along a wooded stream. There is a good dirt road we will also follow along level terrain for about ¼ mile along the river to see more open riparian habitat. We should be able to see American Dippers and swallows under the bridge. Hopefully warblers will be present in the trees and brush including Yellow Warbler, Orange- crowned and Black-throated Gray. There are usually some Spotted Sandpipers along the river too. We will likely hear Fox Sparrows and see colorful Lazuli Buntings and Black-headed Grosbeaks.

Apr 26, Sharp-tailed Grouse Lek at the Selman Ranch

The Bridgerland Audubon Society has again been graciously invited by our great rancher friends, the Selmans, to visit their property in southern Cache Valley and observe Sharp-tailed Grouse dancing on their mating grounds.

Following the grouse viewing, the Selmans will feed us pastries for breakfast. In addition to viewing the birds, it is an opportunity to see how truly responsible stewards of the land like the Selmans carry out their ranching operations in a way that makes the land more productive and beautiful for both man and wildlife.

This trip is suitable for both novice and experienced birders. Meet 4:30 am at the SW corner of the 750 North Smiths parking lot for ride share.

    Trip Report:
We had about 30 people attend.
We will add bird photos as they are submitted to us. bridgerlandaudubon@gmail.com, webmaster@bridgerlandaudubon.org or lyle.bingham@gmail.com

Join the Cache County Conservation Districts and Weed Department in the War On Weeds. Together we can protect our natural landscapes and preserve biodiversity.

Noxious weeds are invasive plant species that pose serious threats to ecosystems, agriculture, native plant communities, and our economy.

They out-compete native vegetation, reducing food for wildlife and domesticated animals. Dyers woad (Isatis tinctoria) is a highly invasive plant originating in Europe, introduced into North America as a source of blue dye. It infests disturbed sites, rangelands, pastures, roadsides, and cultivated fields; and seeds are easily dispersed on animal fur, clothing, shoes and vehicles.

    How You Can Help Volunteer:

  • Join Cache County residents in efforts to remove Dyers woad by pulling weeds, bagging them and returning the bags in exchange for cash and prize drawings.
  • Spread awareness about the importance of managing noxious weeds.
  • Report sightings of noxious weeds at www.eddmaps.org or on the EddMaps app.

    Bag ‘O Woad
An informational meeting was held Thursday, April 3, from 6:00- 7:30 pm at the Cache Event Center (Fairgrounds). At that time official bags and tickets were distributed (limit of 20 bags). However, if you missed the meeting, stop by any office to obtain bags and instructions. Once filled, the bags may be returned with tickets to exchange for cash and inclusion in a raffle for prizes donated by participating businesses.

Drop off bags filled with Dyers Woad Thursdays from 5:30- 7:00 PM to Cache County Weed Department locations:
    May 8, Hyrum, 1020 E 600 N
    May 1 & 15, Richmond, 161 N 900 W
Additional bags may be obtained on the same evenings.
Weeds must be pulled or dug from the ground, including roots. Wear proper clothing, gloves and shoes. Bring a shovel or heavy duty weeding tools for hard, rocky soil. Safety first!
